Not a Typical Block Puzzle
Cube puzzles, a classic favorite of children, has been kicked up a notch with Hape’s new Zoo Animals Block Puzzle. A typical nine-block puzzle challenges kids to re-create six familiar animals. But animals on the Hape Zoo Animals Block Puzzle are not constrained to the classic square shape. Instead the giraffe puzzle is tall and the alligator is long.

From Stacking to Discovery
At first, toddlers will simply enjoy stacking the wooden blocks. Next, help these beginners out by turning the nine blocks so that all the backgrounds are the same. Soon they will discover that if they arrange the colored pieces correctly, they will make an animal.

Multiple Learning Benefits
Zoo Animals Block Puzzle introduces logic, matching, spatial relationships, critical thinking, and a beginning understanding of cause and effect. It also promotes dexterity and hand/eye coordination, and is the perfect transition to more complex puzzles. Set includes nine wooden blocks with vibrant non-toxic paint.

Difficult, even for adults January 15, 2013
Reviewer: The mom that plays
These wooden block puzzles are solid and very cute. I was so excited to play with these with my 2 year old daughter, but all she wanted to do was stack them. I let her play for a while, then I tried to put together one of the pictures in hopes that she would want to try some on her own. I was suprised at how difficult it was to put together- there is no way she could do these, even with my help. These are a good challenge for my 5 year old, but after 1 or 2 he is uninterested in them. I love the idea of these puzzle blocks and I love the quailty, but I feel like these ones miss the mark. The cute animal pictures are just too difficult for young kids to assemble.

A bit hard for my 4 year old January 14, 2013

Even though my son loves this puzzle, he cannot do it by himself. I first have him find all the same background pieces - it is hard to distinguish between a couple of them - the background is very similar. In addition, as stated previously, the puzzles are not the same shape/size when completed. My son likes the varying sizes, it just makes it a bit more difficult. I would recommend this for older 4 year olds or 5 year olds, although some very visual little ones may have no problem with this puzzle. The blocks are sturdy and beautifully made!

Super cute puzzles January 14, 2013
Reviewer: The mom that plays
When I opened our new Hape Zoo Animals Block Puzzle I was so excited to play it with my 2 year old daughter. (The package recomends 24mo) I fell in love with the durable wooden blocks and the quailty of the bright, happy animals painted onto each piece. I thought she'd have so much fun figuring out the each of the animal puzzles- with my help, of course. Her first inclination was to stack the blocks which I allowed. Then I tired to piece the aligator together so she could see the picture and appreciate the concept of the puzzles. I was suprised at how difficult this was for me as an adult to do, but chalked it up to being a good challenge and learning oppertunity for my kids. I was further dissapointed that she could care less about the animals & puzzles- especially since she often plays with games & toys that are above her age level with no problems. I have since put this away- I will pull it out again in a few months to see if she can appreciate it a little bit more as she develops. I still think it's a good product with some good potential, but I'm just not sure if it is a good fit for our family.

Not as great as it could be August 7, 2012

We have another block puzzle set that is similar. The difference is all of the pieces make a square (instead of two of the animals in the this set that are odd shaped) which means that all the child needs to focus on is finding the right sides and placing them together. This set doesn't have any "box" to put them in so the pieces don't slide around, it makes it very difficult for the child to actually place the pieces next to each other. They need to be super gentle while putting them together, but most 3 year olds or even 4 year olds can't be. The other set we have has a wood box that it goes in so the pieces, although still blocks, do not slide around. I like how simple the pictures are, so the child can use the outline to create the animal.

Good purchase August 3, 2012

Fun and colorful puzzle. This product is recommended for age 24 months so I purchased this for my just-turned 3 yr old. It is much too challenging for her now. Better suited for a 3.5 or 4 yr old in my opinion.
