Fuel Cell 10 Car and Experiment Kit
Last year, as we filled our van with diesel, the price was $4.15 a gallon. While fuel prices are more reasonable today, the reality is that we, as a nation, need an alternative fuel source. What it will be and how soon it will happen is anyone's guess.
Provides a Working Knowledge of Fuel Cells
In the meantime, a working knowledge of fuel cells could give your children an advantage in this technologically-driven world. The Thames & Kosmos Fuel Cell Car and Experiment Kit provides a fascinating introduction to this most significant technology, where a chemical reaction is converted into electricity.
The Stuff Energy Leaders Dream Of
Energy leaders dream of a world where individual homes will meet their own electrical needs through the use of fuel cells. The air pollution caused by combustible engines would then be eliminated. Far more efficient than a generator, fuel cells do not run down or require recharging.
Learn How a Fuel Cell Produces Energy
By constructing his own reversible fuel cell car model that actually runs on water, your child will learn how a fuel cell produces energy. A full-color 64-page experiment manual offers step-by-step assembly instructions and a comprehensive lesson in solar cells and fuel cells explaining the physics upon which this exciting technology is based.
Just Add Water and Batteries!
The kit also contains the ecomplete reversible fuel cell (hydrocycle system), the 3-volt crystalline silicon solar cell, car parts, gas tanks, small electronic parts, digital multimeter, and more. All you will need to provide is the distilled water and, for some experiments, you will need two AA batteries. As absorbing as the projects are, this is not an easy subject and this kit will be most successful in the hands of teens.
What's the difference?
So what's the difference between the old Fuel Cell Car Experiment Set and this new Fuel Cell 10?
New Fuel Cell 10 Car Experiment Set
Flashier car design
Rewritten manual is easier to read
Same topics covered but with fewer hands-on experiments – approx 7 experiments in this set with some additional tests.
A fuel cell is an environmentally friendly energy production device that holds great promise for the future. With this science kit, you can build a model car that runs on water and sunlight using a hydrogen fuel cell. See for yourself how the car of the future can drive without using fossil fuels.
This car uses a unique reversible fuel cell, which can split water in a process called electrolysis and also generate electrical energy. First, energy from sunlight is converted into electricity with the solar panel. The electricity separates water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. These gases are stored in separate tanks at the back of the car. Then, with the electric motor connected, the fuel cell combines the two gases to produce electricity that powers the motor, turning its wheels and driving it across the floor or table. The only by-product is clean water.
Set the car on the rolling display stand to keep it in place for demonstrations and experiments. A battery pack is also included to provide an alternate source of electricity.
Learn about fuel cells and solar cells through experiments you can do on your own, in a classroom, for a science fair project, or with friends. Using the included digital multimeter, you can measure electric currents and voltages to further explore the operations and efficiency of the fuel cell.
Some fuel cell systems, such as this one when used with the solar cell, do not consume any fossil fuels and do not produce harmful greenhouse gases, smog, or engine noise, and are therefore considered environmentally friendly.
The full-color 60-page experiment manual offers step-by-step assembly instructions and a comprehensive lesson in solar cells and fuel cells.
