Timberdoodle's review   If you are planning on getting only one Fischertechnik kit, this would be a dandy. A combination of the Universal and the Mechanic + Static, it covers a lot of ground. In the separate kits there are more projects, especially complicated projects, but for an overview on basic technology using engineer-quality components, Universal 2 is a hard kit to beat. A wordless manual is included with this set, but no curriculum guide is available. After Lego, we were at a loss - these are great! November 5, 2008 Reviewer: Elizabeth L. from Dublin, Virginia   My son is advanced for his age and mechanically inclined. Although this is a wonderful blessing it has been a challenge for our family to find materials to hold his interest and keep him challenged. After going through all of the Lego and other available construction projects available to us we were at a loss. I am so grateful for timberdoodle for making Fishertechnic available and for keeping it affordable. Thanks to their reviews I was able to determine which items would suit his needs...and they have been great!! He has been able to build  models of transmissions, of pneumatics and of motors with technical accuracy and understanding. I would encourage any family to put these models into the hands of their children, both the gifted and those whose strengths are in other areas, we all drive automobiles and at some point in our lives will need the ability to assemble models of one kind or another. There is something for everyone here, and the models are well suited to homeschool families and age ranges. Try one of the intro models offered at a reasonable price...and you will be convinced! Their completed projects were a JOY! November 5, 2008 Reviewer: John I. from Mililani, HI   Most homeschoolers are very bright, curious, and inventive.   While my son is not homeschooled (except during the summer and breaks) he is gifted and talented.  The age group for the Fischertechnik products is somewhat misleading ---> my son is younger than the recommended age group.  My son, his classmate, and his sister each were given a different Fischertechnik product to "discover" and learn.  The only "difficult" part is that for those children who like to "rush", such as my son's classmate, he simply force-fit the screws.  Thus, at some point, he had no other screws to complete the project since the smaller ones fell through the locations that he had remaining.  His sister and my son who were a bit more careful and tried to match the screws according to the instructions, had no problem.  Their completed projects were a JOY! The children had a grand time trying to make their projects "do things" and then traded their projects amongst each other to see what they could do. I would like to continue adding to the Fischertechnik products that we already have.  For homeschoolers that interact in a group, a possible project is for each individual member to build a component of a project such as an assembly line. These kits (pick anyone you want!) are THE BEST!!! October 31, 2008 Reviewer: Karren C. from Elizabeth, CO   These kits (pick anyone you want!) are THE BEST for teaching hands-on kids how things work, what makes it "tick", what it looks like when you don't want them taking the real thing apart(!) and has them thinking the whole way! Especially great for boys who need things to do(!) that are real and valuable and they don't have to be reading to do it!  We LOVE these products.
