Famous Figures of Medieval Times
In government school, history tends to be a read-only subject. Thankfully, however, your home-schooled children have options. If you have a child who dreads reading but loves art and drama, the Famous Figures series is the perfect history supplement for her.

Each meticulous Famous Figures of Medieval Times illustration is based on authentic mosaics, paintings, and sculptures. Easy-to-assemble colored characters are printed on heavy cardstock with perforated pages for trouble-free removal. Simply punch a couple of holes, attach some common fasteners, and your Famous Figures of Medieval Times are ready to take center stage as your child reenacts the age of castles and conquest.

If your student is an avid artist, she will be pleased to discover that a colorable version of each figure is also included on the same sturdy cardstock. Fill in each Medieval figure with hues as realistic or exotic as you wish.

Famous Figures of Medieval Times includes figures of Justinian I, Theodora, Richard I (The Lionheart), Charlemagne, Leif Eriksson, Joan of Arc, Marco Polo, Francis of Assisi, Genghis Khan, and William I (The Conqueror). A detailed biography section provides key information about the medieval characters. A companion reading list for each figure is included for parent/teacher read-alouds and independent readers.
Includes the following ten historic figures in full-color and black and white:
  • Justinian I
  • Theodora
  • Richard I (The Lionheart)
  • Charlemagne
  • Leif Eriksson
  • William I (The Conqueror)
  • Genghis Khan

Not a good fit for us December 2, 2016

This was part of the curriculum kit.  We liked the dolls and my son enjoyed coloring but he's only 6 so he lost interest before finishing them.  We already have coloring sheets with The Story of the World activity book so this seemed redundant.

Famous and Fun Characters August 22, 2015
    Reviewer: Kristina W.
We had so much fun with the Famous Figures of Ancient times that we came back for the Medieval ones this year. We loosely follow the Story of the World and the history timeline from Veritas press, and while there isn't a figure for every event on our history timeline, it's like a special treat to get to make the people that go with the stories and events that we are learning about. We make the colored ones, and then they get to color in the black and white ones and make them during their free time. None are ever left over in the book. :)

    Hands-on for older kids! May 31, 2012
    Reviewer: Sandwich in Wi
My daughters, ages 13 and 11 are working through Mystery of History II this year and these paper dolls have been a perfect fit. There is a nice selection of figures, from Theodora to Richard the Lionheart to Genghis Khan and more! Each figure is presented on stiff cardstock in both a pre-colored and a ready-to-color version. My dds were able to share the book by taking turns with the two types (one took the colored, one the uncolored, then switched for the next figure). The coloring detail is perfect for this age and colored pencils. After coloring they must be cut out and put together using brads. My girls extended the activity by taping the completed figures to the window and using them as templates for tracing more figures. It's great to have a hands-on activity for older children that's not babyish. They worked on these while listening to me read. Having a ready-made resource was wonderful also. No downloading and photocopying! This set lasted all year and was well worth the price. I wouldn't recommend it for very small children who would just scribble, or for those who could not cut out the figures neatly. Younger children COULD complete these with some assistance. Another nice extension would be to use them in a puppet show of sorts.
