Timberdoodle's review

Many moms have far more urgent things to do than supervise the making of Latin or Greek cards, but because you will need a set of cards for each child, this task can be overwhelming. If card making is holding you back from using this program, here is a solution. I prefer having each of my children make and maintain their own card files, so I used these cards only for them to copy from. It has certainly saved me considerable amounts of time and is more cost effective than buying a separate card set for each child. English from the Roots Up Cards contains 100 cards in a box. It couldn't be easier!
100 cards teaching Greek and Latin words and their derivatives

Buy the cards, don't make your own! May 31, 2012
Reviewer: Erin
I am usually a make your own girl and when I purchase the book, I figured I'd make my own. I must say that frugal sometimes disguises itself as CHEAP!! and that is not always the best way to learn. It is nice to have the uniformity to the cards. They all have the same writing, the same colors, the same uniformity that makes the learning so much easier. I kept the box and return them when done and they are staying in very nice shape. I hope to use these through several children that use English from the Roots Up. I have found a lot of enjoyment using this system and find that daily, we are finding roots many times over, which just reinforces what we're learning.

Love the cards! April 27, 2011
Reviewer: Jennifer Schneider from Rhinelander, WI United States
I was leery about purchasing these because I do not know Latin or Greek, but after several years of having these recommended to us, I final purchased them.  Couldn't have been easier to add to our day and improve the kids vocabulary with minimal effort!  We started reading and reviewing these in our quiet time each morning, just adding two or there new words a day until we'd gone through them all.  Whenever the kids see these key words in other words, they are so proud to show off their new language understanding!  Even my five year old picked most of them up!  We bought the books as well, but they are very similar and we weren't able to use them as well.  For us, the cards were perfect!

Test scores in vocabulary dramatically improved! November 4, 2008
Reviewer: Melanie K. from Pensacola, Fl
We used this book and flashcards as our vocabulary curriculum.  The root words really teach kids to decode the English language.  My children's test scores in vocabulary have dramatically improved since using these lessons.  Although the book contains handy teaching notes, you can actually use the flash cards as a stand alone product if budget is an issue.

I couldn't be more pleased with the results! November 4, 2008
Reviewer: Susan M. from Derry, NH
We just began using English from the Roots Up this year. I wanted a program that would be fun and easy for my 11 yo son. I couldn't be more pleased with the results! Just the other day while working on his science he burst out, "Hey, Mom, I get why it's called kinetic energy!" We had just learned the previous week the root "kinesis" which means 'movement'. I've also been using it with some second graders in a coop class and they are loving it too! They go home every week and quiz their families to see if they know what the roots and derivatives mean. It's a painless and fun way to learn for the student as well as the teacher.
