Grammar and Punctuation Practice
Editor in Chief improves your child's grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and attention to detail using a standards-based thinking approach rather than drill and practice. This effective method teaches students to carefully analyze and edit stories that contain errors in writing mechanics and story details.
The stories involve mixed-skills practice, starting with easier errors and becoming more challenging as students become adept at the editing process.
Students identify and circle errors in each story. They then insert, modify, or delete punctuation, words, and short phrases to make corrections. An editing checklist and annotated guide to grammar, usage, and punctuation are provided to help focus students' thinking and allow them to match their answers to applicable rules.
Detailed answers are also included.
Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's Tenth Grade Core Curriculum!
Editor in Chief is a nifty program that bridges the gap between grammar head knowledge and practical application. Our children delighted in finding the errors in content, grammar, punctuation, and usage. Each Editor in Chief exercise includes an article or letter with an illustration. Sometimes there are even discrepancies between pictures and the text, adding an extra element of fun!
There are several “editing-type” books available for home educators, but the Editor in Chief series is our favorite because it is reproducible and because there is a terrific answer key in the back of every book. The key not only supplies you with detailed solutions, but also corresponding rules and a corrected copy of the exercise. There is even a comprehensive grammar guide included for a detailed explanation of the rules! Although Editor in Chief is published by a secular company, there are only a handful of exercises in the entire series that I could have done without. Another high-quality product from the good folks that do our thinking skills books.
