    Cookie Recipes & Allowance
Whether your children realize it or not, they use math every day, from doubling the cookie recipe to banking their allowance. But mention word problems and most children recoil. Word problems are designed to show that the mathematical principles your children are learning are related to the mathematical problems they will encounter in real life.

    Repeated, Daily Exposure
Most math textbooks emphasize rote drillwork. But real life applications, the most important part of any subject matter, are often overlooked. Yet even if a math curriculum includes the national norm of about 10% word problems, most children benefit greatly from repeated, daily exposure. With just minutes a day, Daily Word Problems will help your children apply mathematical knowledge to analyze and solve real-world problems.

    Mimicking Real Life
The hardest thing about doing word problems is taking the words and translating them into the math equation, so though the use of interesting themes, charts, and graphs, Daily Word Problems will help your child see patterns to solving these types of problems. Daily Word Problems' inclusion of diverse word problems to mimic the problems faced in the real world will help your children to understand that no matter what occupation they choose, they will need math.

This math book is excellent! September 27, 2014

This math book is excellent! My son is using the Math Reasoning grade 1, and I bought this to help give a more well rounded math curriculum. The word problems are short, sweet and to the point. Easy comprehension and quick solvable problems which is perfect for my sons short attention span. There is only 1 word problem to solve each day, and on Friday's they add some fun facts about the animal used in the word problem. Example: Zebras eat grass and sometimes leaves and bark.

    Not impressed November 22, 2013
    Reviewer: JL
My daughter loves math. We uses Mathematical Reasoning from the Critical thinking Company. She can often do the exercises in that book independently. We are not thrilled with this book. The word problems make no sense to her. I am often confused about how they intend a child to solve the problem with the skills they know. For example, quite often the answer could be easily found through multiplication, but my first grader doesn't know multiplication and the scope and sequence in the book doesn't expect them to use multiplication. Sometimes, the problem requires so many different steps that my daughter can't even remember all the information. She cannot do this independently. The only way we have been able to use this book is if I walk her through the problem step by step. Because there's only one problem a day, she has nothing to do to reinforce what I just explained. We are about a third of the way through the book. I'm hoping that by the end of the year some of the concepts will repeat and she will be able to do the problems. I wouldn't purchase another book from this series.

Daily Word Problems Grade 1 Math by Evan-Moor Educational Publishers, like the other Evan-Moor products Timberdoodle sells is wonderfully concise, and this is no exception. Word problems have been like tooth pulling in our house and doing them little by little, on a daily basis builds skills in a near painless way. We love this series!

Short, sweet, and to the point.  If I don’t have time to do Asher’s entire math curriculum, at least I know that I didn’t rest on my laurels.

The book mimics real life math problems.  (Ummm  . . . and just like in real life, I do have to read some of this to Asher.)

    Gotta. Love. That.
