Cuisenaire Rods Introductory Set
In the 1980s, when widespread homeschooling in the USA was still in its infancy, I read of a homeschooling mom in Ireland who used multi-colored, multi-length rods to teach her children a variety of mathematical concepts. Using rods in an assortment of ten bright colors to depict numerical values, her children could easily see a multitude of mathematical concepts as they manipulated the rods.
Versatile Mathematical Manipulative!
The process made perfect sense to me, and I knew our children would benefit from such a versatile mathematical manipulative. After a bit of investigative work, I discovered Cuisenaire Rods and we have been enthusiasts ever since. For over fifty years, Cuisenaire Rods have been used to teach a wide variety of mathematical topics such as the basic four operations, fractions, area, solving simple equations, and more.
Preschool Through Eighth Grade
Used in classrooms around the world, this essential learning tool is suitable for preschoolers and on through eighth grade. Set of plastic rods contains seventy-four rods (the smallest rod is a one cm cube, the largest is ten cm long), tray with lid, and an activity guide.
Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's First Grade Core Curriculum!
See and touch math!
Cuisenaire Rods spark children's interest in mathematics by letting them see and touch math concepts. Cuisenaire Rods are rectangular rods in 10 lengths and 10 colors, each color corresponding to a different length.
The Basic Set contains 74 rods, enough for a pair of students working together: 22 white, 12 red, 10 light green, 6 purple, and 4 each of yellow, dark green, black, brown, blue and orange rods.
The Activity Guide gets you started with some basic ideas of how to introduce Cuisenare Rods and how to use Cuisenare Rods in teaching basic math concepts including Multiplication, Fractions, Exploring Ratios, Finding Perimeters and more.
