Timberdoodle's review

Are you looking for a complete homeschool curriculum for your second grader? You'll find that Timberdoodle's Curriculum engages the hands-on learner, reaches for academic excellence, and encourages a growing love for learning. We also stress critical thinking skills and, even at this early grade, working towards independent learning.

We asked parents who used our Second Grade Kit how long their student spent on "school." Over 60% of them estimated that they spent 2-4 hours a day on their kit. Another 20% estimated that their child spent more than 4 hours a day. That is a lot of variation, and is likely to be impacted by how in-depth you take your child's studies, what is your child's learning approach, how distractible he is, and much more. Make sure you allow yourself and your child some time to find your own rhythm!

Best complete curriculum available September 15, 2016
Reviewer: Lori Harris from Sierra Vista, AZ United States
My sons love the Timberdoodle curriculum kits!  For second grade, the favorites are Story of the World 2, the step by step drawing book, and TinTin in America.   They love SOTW so much I purchased all four of the additional reading books.  I love the ease of creating a customized curriculumfor each of my kids.  We usually sub out science, because my children just haven't found Apologia interesting enough (though I do!).   My goal is to create a love of learning and Timberdoodle makes it easy.  The components of the kids are well researched and a good fit for a multitude of children (and learning styles)- the fact that the kits can be customized even further is wonderful.  I love all of the STEM and logic/thinking skills choices that are included and I consider them vital- to the point that I turn up my nose at every other  company's  "complete kit" I see because they lack in this department.  Timberdoodle gets how kids learn!

We are really enjoying the entire kit, science we opted to switch to the other 2nd grade science that timberdoodle offers. Overall very happy and it really beats the Public School curriculum in our area.

Timberdoodle is a winner! November 20, 2015
Reviewer: Krista L.
Thank you, Timberdoodle, for putting together such awesome materials that make school so much fun and so effective for our second grader. We use a workbox system and she loves to go from book to book. She is independent much of her school day, but the parts we do together have been fun for me, too. Her favorite book is Thinking Skills and it is perfectly geared to her little mind. She looks forward to seeing what's on the next page and asks to do "just one more page"!

Basic package November 17, 2015
Reviewer: Jaimie
I got the basic package because it was in my price range. We have been using it for almost 4 months now and are really enjoying it. My son really enjoys the critical thinking and geography. We are weeks ahead in both because he doesn't want to stop once we start. The basic package is great if you can suppliment with your own lessons, but I feel its a bit light on its own. I knew that getting the basic package, but I picked up some used books at our local himeschool book sale. So he is doing apologia for science and begs to do it every day. The math is pretty good. We go over it together and if he needs more help we do a short lesson. It spirals which is great for confidence building in kids who struggle like my son. All products we've ordered from timberdoodle have been great! Looking forward to next year already.

A New Direction for Us...the Right One! September 29, 2015
Reviewer: Sheila K.
We have three older kids who are finished with schooling, and now have a 7 year old that we get to "start over" with! All the tried and true things that worked great with my artsy, language loving older kids just were not working with my little science guy. We prayerfully thought through our options, and decided that Timberdoodle's 2nd grade Elite curriculum would be a good fit for him. He was so excited to order it at the beginning of the summer, then to take out the different components and talk about how much fun 2nd grade would be. We did a couple of engino projects and one of the sand art projects before the school year started...he just couldn't wait!Once we officially began the school year, we had a couple of rough weeks. Having done things in a more Charlotte Mason style, the amount of workbooks were daunting for both of us. But it didn't take long to realize that 1) the workbooks don't really take that much time in the whole schedule of the day, and 2) they are way more enjoyable than the "3 r's" stuff we have been doing. At one time or another in the past 4 weeks, every workbook has been voted the favorite...it changes every few days. What we really like the best, though, is all the fun stuff there is to do AFTER the workbooks: Famous Figures, Engino, Sand Art, Construction Doodles, Tenzi, Laser Maze, QBitz....this curriculum has really been an answer to prayer. It is doable for a mom with chronic health issues and limited energy, and for a wiggly kinesthetic boy who hates to use a pencil. Not just doable; truly enjoyable!
