Reading
The Reading Lesson is ideal for this age with its easy pace, large text, and adorable line drawings. The logical progression of using both phonics and developmentally-appropriate sight-words without all the rules makes this program successful for these beginning readers. This is a very appealing program that doesn't take much time to implement.
As soon as your child is ready, introduce the Now I'm Reading books--typically a great treat for this age! Of course, you'll want to continue supplementing this with read-alouds from your local library or family collection. These form the foundation for great discussions and allow your child to absorb your own love of reading.
Is your student a little livewire? Break out the Thinking Putty for him to fidget with while you read. Be forewarned that it tends to stick to fabric, including carpets, so this is probably best as a kitchen table activity!

Language Arts
When you think of grammar, do you think of endless memorization and lengthy, tedious workbooks, suitable only for the most meticulous older student? If so, you're not thinking of Language Lessons! Language Lessons is the finest implementation of the Charlotte Mason method of instruction we've seen. The short daily lesson may include a picture study of a full-color painting, basic phonics instruction, poetry appreciation, narration, or copy work. It is a great way to cultivate language skills in your youngster, even as he learns to read.
A Reason for Writing's colorful, kid-friendly format will introduce handwriting skills with individual letter practice on full-color pages and a creation-based coloring page for each letter. |

Thinking Skills
Children need to be taught how to think and how to reason, and the sooner the better, as 75% of a child's IQ will be developed before seven years of age. Developing the Early Learner fleshes out all four fundamental perception skills--visual, auditory, motor, and comprehension--via a gently progressive sequence of enjoyable activities. Very easy to use, this series of workbooks helps you discover and overcome your children's learning weaknesses while building their strengths. One test found that 95% of children who took the program significantly increased in their learning abilities!
Geoboard Picturesis a terrific hands-on supplement to your thinking skills program. Using sixteen simple pictures, your child will be asked to match shapes and colors as he copies each picture onto his Geoboard. Your child will love the challenge and you will love how it improves his fine-motor and visual discrimination skills. Includes eight colorful, two-sided picture cards, one five by five pin plastic Geoboard, and 40 rubber bands. |

Science
When it comes to science for young children, nothing beats the convenience of an all-in-one kit. The ability to grab a box and do science is a huge blessing. With Stepping into Science's wide assortment of twenty-five experiments, your young children will study biology, physics, chemistry, air, and water. They will learn what germination is and that not all plants spread by seeds. They will discover how air pressure indicates weather and what makes a magnifying glass magnify. They will understand how a suction cup works, why soap bubbles are round, and so much more. Apart from a handful of household items, such as water and vinegar, everything you need is included. |

Math
Open up your Horizons workbook and the first thing you will notice is how bright and colorful the pages are. But don't get the wrong impression; there is nothing fluffy about this program. Horizons Math includes analytical reasoning, memorization, and drill. The skills taught in Horizons Math readily apply to real-life situations. This is a fast-paced, hard-core math program. Using the spiral learning approach, new concepts are introduced while all the fundamental concepts learned in earlier units are reviewed and reinforced for true mastery. Our 100-piece, colorful counter set will undoubtedly get quite a work-out and be a bit more durable than the typical jelly beans and more fun than popcorn kernels. |

Geography
Using Geopuzzles, your kindergartener can learn with amazing accuracy the countries of Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia, as well as the states of the USA, with no effort on your part. Geopuzzle pieces are shaped like individual countries or states, so children learn as they put the puzzles together. Jumbo-sized and brightly-colored, Geopuzzle pieces are easy for chubby hands to manipulate. As children assemble the puzzles, they learn not only each country's name, shape, and capital, but where the country is located and how the entire continent fits together; all the while, they are building their thinking skills, problem solving skills, and spatial awareness.
We've included a Beginner's World Atlas for when they are ready to learn more. This atlas provides bright, colorful pictures geared towards five to eight-year-olds and contains basic geographical information about each continent. |
