CHEM C1000 - Experiment Manual Sample Pages (PDF)

Bigger and better than ever, Chem C1000 will lead your child through 75 diverse experiments as it lays the groundwork for understanding chemistry. The 40-page, full-color Experiment Manual introduces young scientists to a broad range of chemical phenomena and hands-on laboratory experience.

It uses a "magic tricks" theme as an enticement to master some of the experiments, and I appreciate the declaration that all magic is merely deception and that scientists should not allow themselves to be deceived. Children are even encouraged to share with their audiences why the tricks work. Not all the experiments have wow-appeal, but this is a systematic program that does more than excite; it educates.

Recommended for children 10 and older, but I strongly recommend adult supervision as the kit contains some potentially scary chemicals.

Chem C1000's 40-page, full-color Experiment Manual guides aspiring young chemists, chemical engineers, lab technicians and researchers through 75 experiments.

    A Great Kit! September 26, 2011
Reviewer: Homeschool Mom of 5 from Barnesville, MN United States
My 11 year old begged for this kit after he finished Chem500.  He has enjoyed working the science experiments and has working on them on his own with my supervision.  The manual is very well written and easily unstood by my 11 year old.  My son wishes he could own every Thames and Cosmos kit!  As a mom, I know they always have great products!

It required a lot of other items... October 17, 2008
Reviewer: Sonya W. from Ownings, MD
I was disappointed with this product because it required a lot of other items not included in the kit.  In addition, it did not give a list of required items any where in the book.  My children would be working along and the instructions would say use half a lemon (or some other item you do not always have around the house).  We do not store lemons at the house so they would have to stop or skip that activity.  The book was well designed, had nice colored pictures and was set up in a step by step format.  With the exception of the activities that require additional resource, everything but one activity worked well.  It includes one activity that we could not make work and when we tried calling the manufacturer no one there could help us. I did order it from Timberdoodle and they were great about resolving my frustration.  I would whole heartily recommend purchasing from Timberdoodle but I would not purchase this product.
