CHEM C1000 - Experiment Manual Sample Pages (PDF)

Systematic Approach to Chemistry Experiments
Bigger and better than ever, Chem C1000 will lead your child through 125 diverse experiments as it lays the groundwork for understanding chemistry, and ultimately builds a strong foundation in this fascinating subject. The 80-page full-color Experiment Manual introduces young scientists to a broad range of chemical phenomena and hands-on laboratory experience.

It uses a "magic tricks" theme as an enticement to master some of the experiments, and I appreciate the declaration that all magic is merely deception and that scientists should not allow themselves to be deceived. Children are even encouraged to share with their audiences why the tricks work. Not all the experiments have wow-appeal, but this is a systematic program that does more than excite; it educates.

Recommended for children 10 and older, but I strongly recommend adult supervision as the kit contains some potentially scary chemicals.

Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's 2016 Seventh-Grade Curriculum Kit!

Chem C1000's 80-page, full-color Experiment Manual guides aspiring young chemists, chemical engineers, lab technicians and researchers through 125 experiments.

    Very Basic October 28, 2014

I let my 5th grade son choose what he wanted to learn for science this year, and he chose chemistry. The kit is well organized and contains many good experiements. We are about 20% through it. I wish the book did more explaining about the fundamentals of chemistry and why the experiements work. Mostly, it just tells you what to do and what is going to happen. He enjoys it, but if he were older, I would be adding a textbook on the fundamentals of chemistry. Some of the chemicals can be dangerous, so we always have him wear safety gear and he is always supervised by an adult.

    So far... October 16, 2013
    Reviewer: Nicole T.
Everything is going as I had hoped. I purchased this set to accompany my son's Integrated Physics and Chemistry curriculum. He isn't big on learning with hands on methods having to do with his schoolwork (he prefers writing and reading material). However the experiments aren't unfairly overwhelming. We are on experiment #3 and are fitting in one experiment per week. He is able to complete an experiment in a short amount of time, enter results/conclusion/observation (this isn't a requirement of the chem set) in his science journal and call it a day for science. This provides a break up of the P and C's daily reading, activities, and quizzes that occur during the remaining days. The CHEM set has offered do-able experiments, concepts challenging enough for a 9th grader while offering the hands-on experience. Looking ahead in the experiment booklet at future experiments I don't foresee any conflicts I will have with the set. It offers a tool to reinforce concepts of chemistry; this is the objective I was wanting to reach.

Quality products and customer service May 31, 2012
    Reviewer: Dmom
I have had two similar interactions with Customer Service at Thames & Kosmos, and found them to have superior service both times. In the case of our Chem C1000 kit, while unpacking a component we accidentally broke a piece, so I called the company to ask how to buy a replacement. Even though it was entirely our fault, the company sent a replacement part for free. I've been wanting to spread the word that Thames & Kosmos offers top-quality products, and extraordinary customer service.
