BuckyBalls
While we may be loath to accept it, there are pockets of tedium in nearly every child's day. Often it involves time when their brains need to be engaged, but their bodies stilled. For a kinesthetic child, this can be sheer torture. Some children deal with it by doodling, and others by knee bouncing and finger tapping. When the doodling wanes and the jiggling and tapping are about to drive others to despair, pull out a set of the addictive Buckyballs and enjoy peace once again.
Super-Strong Magnetic Metal
A Buckyball set includes 216 tiny (5mm in diameter) balls made of rare-earth super-strong magnetic metal known as neodymium. Buckyballs can be snapped into a simple string or into complex shapes like cubes, cylinders, and pyramids (watch the video). But because each ball maintains its own polarity, nothing is constructed without a setback or two. A Durable And Addictive Fidget Toy

Rare-earth neodymium is the strongest type of permanent magnet made so BuckyBalls will lose only about one percent of its magnetism over a 10-year period. Other generic sphere magnets on the marketplace have a thin nickel plating that is prone to flaking, but the original BuckyBalls' plating is thick, durable, and long-lasting.
Are They Safe?
A couple warnings are in order. First, BuckyBalls Magnetic Building Spheres were designed to be as strong as they can possibly be without putting magnetic storage devices and/or medical equipment in harm's way. The manufacture feels that they are perfectly safe to use around your smart phones and that the BuckyBalls would need to be set directly on top of your computer's hard drive to wipe it out. Personally, I lack his confidence and suggest that unless your piece of equipment is expendable, you should not let BuckyBalls and any electronic device enjoy close fellowship. This includes cell phones, TVs and computers.

Secondly, and far more urgently, BuckyBalls Magnetic Building Spheres were designed for children mature enough to abide by one inflexible rule: do not eat. Because of the risk of ingestion of these magnets and the subsequent consequence, if your children cannot be trusted to keep BuckyBalls out of both theirs and their pet's mouths, then we urge you not to purchase them.
Relaxing and Therapeutic
But if your home hasn't see a dirty diaper or a rubber ducky for some years, and your children have shown themselves responsible with knives, needles and pins, then they may be ready for the intriguingly addictive yet relaxing and therapeutic delights of BuckyBalls Magnetic Building Spheres. |
