Timberdoodle's review
Bloxels is a hands-on, brains-on, design experience where your child will place, click, and play his own video game. Consisting of just two parts: the Bloxels board that allows your child to arrange colored-coded blocks representing different elements like walls, enemies, explosions, treasures and even a pixelated character; and an app that uses a photo of the board to transform those elements into a fully functional video game.

Animating your pixelated character is fun and as easy as moving the color-coded sturdy plastic cubes, and pictures can be taken of multiple boards to create a level as large as the user desires. You can also include textual information, including the ability to add dialogue to insert a storytelling aspect to a game. As your child begins to design games for friends or family to play, he will need to use higher-order-design thinking as he plans his game for a variety of end-users. Bloxels' kid-friendly video game design is an excellent way to combine writing, art, animation, design, and logic into one program.

Bloxels has a game board and blocks and then you get to transfer it to a tablet.  I love Bloxels because it lets me make my own game.  I want to be a game maker when I grow up.

    Daughter says 5 stars, Mom 4 September 26, 2016
Reviewer: Allison Smith from lacey, WA United States
Its very cool however like the review with only 1 star it is kind of difficult to use. We actually had to redo the initial steps over a few times since it didn't  validate our project. every time it doesn't register your initial build you have to re build an entire project. This is really an app issue and not the hands on building!

    It's expensive for what you're getting September 13, 2016

You can use this with the app, and don't actually need the blocks.  They're fun and if you have a hands on learner then maybe they would be worth it, but I personally feel they're overcharging for what you receive.

It took us a while to work out the app, and then even when we photographed our blocks it would get the colors wrong and we would have to finish the drawing in the app.

The app really needs to be less buggy, and perhaps have a tutorial that guides the child through it.

Just know this takes quite some time to do because each position - jump, run, walk needs it's own picture and if they really want it animated two pictures.  Then you have the scenes to make.
The app once worked out is interesting, but there are better programming educational programs out there.

Awesome and fun! September 12, 2016
Reviewer: Michelle B from Montana United States
My 9 yr old girl and 5 yr old boy love making and playing this. My girl can spend hours making rooms and characters (I just don't let her) and she let's her brother test out the rooms she makes. They collaborate together to make things and fix problems that arise. Even my 2 yr old helps by putting the colored blocks away, learning colors. Over all though my 9 yr old gets the most play out of this and I have to set time limits. My daughter says the best thing is making it but it's also a challenge too. (For those concerned my 2 yr old does not play with it unless I'm around and helping her.)

Must have for 5-10 yr olds September 9, 2016
Reviewer: JESSICA EMMONS from Atmore, AL United States
I purchased this for my 5 and 7 yr old. In fact, I just purchased a copy for me! If I had another tablet, I would be ordering another set for my husband. I love the block aspect, the kids get to physically build something and then bring it to life. It's so easy..but there is ALOT  of depth here. You can make levels, characters, bad guys, animations, backgrounds, stories...kids can even post their creations to the 'infinity' wall. Other users can 'buy' your content on the infinity wall with coins (absolutely fake currency, no real money required to obtain it). You earn coins this way and can see who has downloaded your content! You can also purchase others' content from the infinity wall! You can post your games there and others can play and earn coins...
The infinity wall is awesome! Our favorite aspect of it!
