Bede's History of Me

Before your kindergartner can begin to study history, she needs to know what it is. Bede's History of Me was written to lay the foundation towards a better understanding of timelines; geography; family, church, and holiday history; and more. Designed to be used only once a week, Bede's History of Me makes an ideal exploratory introduction to history.

Bede is a timeline...who strongly resembles a ball of yarn. This lovable character introduces young children to the basics of timelines and history in a fun way. A few of the topics discussed include Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, the history of toys, the history of sports, and more. Bede’s History of Me is just the thing for teaching first-time historians the importance of timelines and how God works in time.

We didn't finish it February 28, 2017
Reviewer: Sarah Clark-Wamuhiu from TN United States
I purchased this book for my son when he was 4 because he was asking about time, past, present, future and history. We loved the concept of Bede and the timeline but once the lessons moved on to other things it did not hold my sons interest and I found it difficult to follow.  We ended up only doing the first few lessons before moving on to something else.

I like it because it is awesome. I like it so much that I get excited. If we run out of pages, I want to get another book about Bede.

Loved this Project-Based Curriculum August 13, 2015

Kindergarten can sometimes be intense for a little boy and his mama! This curriculum offered my son and me a respite to curl up on the couch and read these short passages and discuss these topics as they were relevant to his life: his grandparents, his birth, his city, etc. The activities included did not usually require much preparation (the most intense was collecting pictures of him throughout his life) and I could usually set him up to do it on his own (a plus for both K teacher and student!). One reading and activity a week will last a 36 week school year, but the most lessons could be done more frequently. We found this a great springboard for discussing the topic throughout the week.

Bede's History of Me July 21, 2015

So far so good. My kids love Bede. We purchased only one book and I have made our own versions of consumable pages along with our own doodles of Bede. We are already getting a good grasp on understanding how timelines work and only do this part of our curriculum once a week. I suggest this for all Kinders.

Dissappointed July 14, 2015

Disclaimer: I'm a first time home schoolerPros: Well suited for 5-6 year olds the book has great interactive projects that help to make the concept of "history" personal and individual to the child. Lessons are short and simple with little to no prep work from the parent/teacher. There are some great lessons that help the child learn about his personal history as well as the history of his home, and their place in the history of the world.Cons: There is no index or anything else to help you quickly and easily determine how the lessons fit best into the other items in your curriculum. There isn't much to this book, there are 32 lessons which took around 10 minutes or so to complete. There are lessons on Christmas, Epiphany, St. Patricks Day, Easter (2 lessons), Church History (2 lessons) and Thanksgiving so 25% of the lessons are on holidays that not all Christians observe. Not a big deal in the grand scheme, but would have been helpful to know before purchasing. There are a couple lessons of more interest to one gender than others (Sports, Dresses, Goldilocks). They are still good lessons, but more difficult to garner interest. I do enjoy the lessons, and how they were put together, but for only 32 lessons it would have been nice to be able to use them all.
