Timberdoodle's review   Do you have an older child that still struggles with spelling? You are not alone. Instead of berating yourself for the mistaken assumption that you have somehow failed your student, solve the problem. There are dozens of time-consuming spelling programs available to home educators, many of them excellent. That's fine if preparing for the spelling program is how you want to spend your day, but I don't. Face it; if your child is an awful speller anyway, then spending a considerable amount of time on a spelling program is not going to make his day. For students that are not natural spellers October 23, 2008 Reviewer: Teni B. from Brookings, OR   We loved Apples and Apples 2.   We used them for remedial spelling work for middle school students but I think they would be fine for most 4th-6th grade students.  The books are set up so that you don't have to be involved or do any prep work. The student learns the rule, and fills in the blanks to use the rule-based words in sentences. These books work well, for students that are not natural spellers by forcing them to pay attention to details. These books would be unnecessary for advanced spellers. Was this review helpful to you?

For a mere few minutes a day my child gets a reinforcement of spelling rules as well as needed practice. I recommend it to anyone, especially those that need much repeating and learn a little slower. I was disappointed October 17, 2008 Reviewer: De U from Cameron, WI   I purchased Apples and Apples 2 as a spelling review. I was disappointed that I was not informed that at times they misspell words for the kids to correct (ex-"shun" instead of "tion"). I feel strongly that I desire my kids to only see the correct spelling of a word in print, therefore I did not use the program. It looked like a decent enough program if you don't mind the correcting of misspelled words. Was this review helpful to you?
