A Reason for Writing - D/4th Grade
Handwriting, especially in this era of word processors, is a fairly low priority compared to other subjects. However, if you are going to make handwriting a part of your curriculum, here is something to think about. For over a dozen years we sold and used another handwriting program. The end result for us was less than stellar, even if the children's handwriting had duplicated what was pictured in the exercise books, as I would question the time spent on copying meaningless sentences. Because we know that handwriting is a learned motor skill requiring regular practice, doesn't it seem that if your child is going to labor over something with his mind and hands, he should also engage his heart? A Reason for Writing does all three.

Includes scripture border sheets
With each 10- to 15-minute daily lesson built around Bible verses, content is not only instructional, but also inspirational. Plus, at the end of each week your children will be given the opportunity to apply excellence to their work as they copy their verse-of-the-week onto their choice of "Scripture Border Sheets." Done with care, these completed sheets are worthy of sharing with friends and family.

Living Bible Paraphrase
A Reason for Writing uses a Living Bible paraphrase for its verses. For those dyed-in-the-wool KJV-only families, let me suggest that even this Scriptural rendition is better for your child to toil over than the trivial sentence about the environment common in other handwriting programs. Each workbook is full color.

Simple & Fun March 5, 2015
Reviewer: MandyJHoffman
This curriculum is simple to use and fun. The student is able to do it almost completely independently and it makes learning penmanship a breeze. My kids love to give away the 5th day lesson page after they have completed it and colored it. For my little artist, that is what she looks forward to each week. Even my child who hates to write, does not complain when it's time to do his handwriting.

So far so great! January 14, 2013
Reviewer: Texas Mom
My 4th grader enjoys coloring each "final week's assignment" sheet and decided how she will gift it to a family member or someone that is sick. She careful colors the sheet and then just as carefully artistically completes the handwriting assignment. It has helped slow her down to focus on the correct letter formation.

Great for good writers June 1, 2012
Reviewer: fulltimemama
This handwriting curriculum is great if you want to practice with those who already write there cursive letters and words well. I would not recommend it if you are still teaching the technique of cursive handwriting. Every lesson is broke down into 4 days. You work on a letter and than different words with that letter in it. Overall this was a good curriculum.

Solid program September 26, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Sicklerville, NJ United States
I agree that A Reason for Writing would not be enough remedial instruction for a struggling student, but the Christian content and the digestible, repetitious, nature of the simple program has its merits.  I use this with another support program for my struggling student, but it is quite sufficient for my typical students.

Dramatic improvement February 24, 2010
Reviewer: Tracy F. from El Paso, TX
I trusted Karen Andreola's review of Getty-Dubay Italic in the CBD catalog, but when my 8th and 6th graders still couldn't READ cursive, and couldn't read their own italic, I knew something was lacking.  Because I've never been dissatisfied with a recommendation from Timberdoodle, I took their advice and switched to A Reason...  Within a week both were dramatically improved.  I've used this for three years now with my seven children.    (It should be noted in the catalog that the Transition book contains all of the exercises/material found in Book B)
